Wuhan Exhibition Hall, rebuilt as Wuhan International Convention and Exhibition Center, was the Sino-Soviet friendship palace built up in 1956 and the fourth largest comprehensive exhibition hall nationwide next to Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou at the initial stage after the founding of PRC. And it was the initiator and standing director of China Exhibition Hall Association. With the development of market economy, the original functions of Wuhan Exhibition Hall could not meet the requirements of the development of convention and exhibition industry. Therefore, Wuhan Municipal Committee of CPC and Government decided to rebuild the largest, modernized and specialized hall in central China on its site. New building is named Wuhan International Convention and Exhibition Center, which was constructed since December 17, 1999 and started running after its completion in August 2001.
Wuhan International Convention and Exhibition Center occupies a total floorage of 127,000 square meters, including ten major exhibition rooms with an area of 50,000 square meters and the space of 2800 international standard booths. The convention hall with an area of 15,000 square meters is composed of 40 conference rooms of distinct styles and varied sizes, multi-functional rooms, banquet rooms, report rooms, VIP rooms and press conference centers, which ranks No. 1 among the convention halls nationwide. Covering an area of 54,000 square meters, The outdoor square integrates with the Green Square of Zhongshan Park to form the largest central exhibition square in Wuhan. The underground floor of the square is a modernized and large-scale shopping center. The underground shopping center, the outdoor square and the body structures of Convention and Exhibition Center combine harmoniously, with a lofty grandeur presenting itself a landmark and a symbol of modern Wuhan.
